Nikon D3000 Takes the Place of the D40 and D60 – How Does the Nikon D3000 Compare to the D5000?

But there is already an entry level camera in the Nikon stable. It is the Nikon D5000. So what are the differences between these two cameras, and which one is the better buy?

Starting with the basic specifications that always get the headlines, the D3000 has a 10.2 megapixel image sensor compared to the 12.3 image sensor of the D5000. While many people are driven to buy the newest camera with the most megapixels, it is not as significant a difference as the marketers would have you believe. A 10 megapixel image is capable of producing monstrous prints of just about any size you would want.

Other differences of note are listed here:

(D3000 listed first) vs     (D5000 listed second)

Sensor size: 10.2MP  vs 12.3MP – slight Advantage D5000 LCD: 3.0″ with 230K pixels vs 2.7″ with 230K pixels – tilt LCD screen - slight Advantage D5000 because of the tilt screen Live View:  no  vs yes – Advantage D5000 Continuous frames: 3fps  vs 4fps – slight Advantage D5000 Video:  no   vs  Yes 1280 x 720 (720p) 24 fps with mono sound – Major Advantage D5000 Price: $599  vs  $729  (both cameras have the same Kit Lens included) – your call based on the above features Image quality: equal – Advantage D3000

From the differences listed, the Clear Advantage goes to the D5000. However, one must consider their own needs. The price difference is about $130, and the major feature causing that  price difference is the Video capability of the D5000. So, the bottom line will be the whether or not the buyer has a desire for Video in their camera. Many folks who are moving up from a point and shoot digital camera have become accustomed to having that capability. However, camera purists will be looking for a camera that has two things, The first is the ability to change lenses as shooting requirements change (hence the DSLR), and the second is the ability to control the cameras shooting setup by manually selecting the priority mode, such as Aperture or Shutter speed.

Are you willing to spend an extra $130 for the video capture feature?

Since this is a brand new release, many reviewers will compare the Nikon D3000 and D5000. A more visually pleasing comparison is available at http://www.digital-photographic-resources.com.

I love photography and all things related to it. Cameras, camera gear, and image editing software fascinate me, so I am either buying the newest piece of equipment (or software) or researching my next purchase.

Nikon D40x – Brief Review

To begin letâ??s take a moment to check out some key features of this amazing camera. Donâ??t worry â?? I wonâ??t bore you to death with all that stuff but still â?? the 10 megapixel DX CCD is the first thing that comes in sight when checking out the huge specification table of Nikon D40x.

Another thing that comes new perhaps will be the pretty expanded viewfinder with a magnification of x0.8 and some nice 95% view of the image you are trying to take picture of. Thatâ??s nice really but itâ??s just the beginning.

Basically there is some kind of a guru rule that says that every photo camera review need to say about the resolution of the image you can take with the photo camera so here it is â?? maximum resolution of 3872×2592 when taking pictures in 10 megapixels mode. Yes, it was not that hard – but the question is â?? is this resolution really that important? Sure â?? it is but check out what comes next.

The quality of the image you shoot can go high in the sky to a RAW data image with 12-bit compression or maybe some nice JPEG compression if you prefer. Donâ??t worry â?? you have the ability to use some huge SD cards when you need more memory for the RAW data. The RGB settings are pretty adjustable too â?? you can even set them to Adobe RGB which will surely add for you some nice support when after editing the image.

The lens mount will bring a smile on your face when you see that it has these nice AF (autofocus) contacts. And letâ??s face it â?? even the most experienced photographer will need them sooner or later.

AF-S and AF-I lens are fully supported. That means that everything will be up and running for you when you are using them – starting with the AF, 3D Color Matrix Metering II and other things like that cool exposure meter for example. With other lens like Micro-Nikkor things may not be as pretty as with the AF-S and AF-I lens but still some nice support will be available to you. However IX Nikkor is not supported.

Now prepare yourself for some diving as we move on to the autofocus. Letâ??s start with that three area TTL phase detection and see what it is all about. Phase detection is a feature of the autofocus and it simply compares images. These images are in fact two coming from the opposite sides of the camera and then a range finder is created in the AF sensor. This is done in order for the distance to the objects to be measured. The new thing here however is the two-dimensional intensity patterns. In Nikon D40x there is pair of sensors orientated in 90â?¦. This helps for the 2D measuring and catching where the objects really are in the distance and focusing the lens properly. Sometimes if the light is not enough an infrared light is used in order for some additional passive data to be collected that will help your AF sensor focus your lens better. You will see that you have a white light assistant here too. Bottom line here will be that â?? yes, you donâ??t need to know about all that stuff in such details but try not to cover the infrared light/white light emitter with your fingers as you shoot.

Next AF mode is about area focusing and is called with the pretty complicated name Multi-CAM530. This together with the range detection is pretty much all about the AF of this photo camera but take in account that it is not about the AF specification but it is you. These AF capabilities are there to be used wilily. Donâ??t think that because they are AF modes they are not important â?? quite the opposite â?? use them properly and they will pretty much bring new dimensions to your work.

AF comes with white light assistance and this is another pretty interesting topic to be discussed. There is also an ability for one of three areas to be selected for you and one nice capability is also there â?? you donâ??t need to keep the shutter button half-way pressed if you need to focus all the time â?? just use the AE-L/AF-L locking mode to insure constant focusing.

With its 420 segment RGB sensor the spot and center-weighted metering are not pretty much all about the metering capabilities of this photo camera. There is also a 3D color matrix metering II which I told you about earlier in this article. To let you know something more about it I will tell you that there is a database in this metering mode that provide you with data about scenes that are difficult to be metered. Your photo camera will use that data in this mode to help you focus and stabilize the image better.

For the white balance there are not many new things to be said. There is a mode in which you will be able to pick a preset of the white balance of a photo but this will surely not be something new to you. However you will absolutely enjoy the fine tuning if the WB as it will be of much help to you.

The shutter speed is 30 seconds to 1/4000 second. Nothing too fancy but I think that it will cover all your needs.

The ISO sensitivity in this photo camera goes pretty high up to 3200. I think that I donâ??t need to tell you more about it and all the stuff coming with it because you will find another article in my blog that will pretty much cover the idea for you.

Nikon Coolpix P2

Nikon’s Wi-Fi cameras are here, though perhaps a few moments too soon. The promise is great: it’s a camera that’s wirelessly connected to your computer, even when the computer is in the other room. The execution—in the shape of the Nikon CoolPix P2 I tested—still needs tweaking.
There are some cool things you can do with a Wi-Fi camera. The biggest oohs and aahs come from shooting pictures that are immediately transferred to a slideshow playing on a computer, with music and all. More mundane but equally useful are a variety of wireless picture transferring and printing options—just select a shot you like and send it to the computer or printer without ever taking your hands off your camera. You can send shots to any printer connected to a computer, but with the optional PD-10 Wireless Print Adapter ($50; out in mid-October), you can also wirelessly send shots straight to any PictBridge-enabled printer.

The trouble with the CoolPix P2 is that it lacks the range and battery life to effectively carry out its missions. Over the Labor Day weekend, I walked around the inside and outside of the house with the camera, for the most part getting a reasonable connection to our Wi-Fi network (a router located in my home office). But when I took the P2 and laptop out to the deck to create a live slideshow there, the camera had an awful time. OK, so Wi-Fi can be tricky, but at the same deck table both an Apple PowerBook and an HP Pavilion notebook had no problems connecting to the Internet via the same wireless network.

Every time the camera would lose the connection, it forgot what I was doing. I would have to wade through a bunch of menus just to get back into the photo shoot-and-transfer mode I’d been using. And after some time playing with the camera in Wi-Fi mode, certainly less than an hour, I was alerted that the battery was drained. Maybe I shouldn?t be too bothered ? after all, I was heavily testing the camera?s wireless features, which isn?t necessarily typical use. Still, it would be nice to know I could get through an entire birthday party while shooting in Wi-Fi mode.

I hate to condemn a first-of-its-kind technology because of herky-jerky behavior. Every product goes through a streamlining, an evolution. Nowadays, the product itself can be updated as improvements are made, and I suspect Nikon is hard at work trying to right some of the wrongs of its new release. The camera is surprisingly affordable for carrying this new capability; after all, in addition to being a wireless pioneer, it?s a solidly performing 5.1-megapixel camera with 3.5x optical zoom and a lot of great automatic and manual controls. (There?s also an 8-megapixel version, the CoolPix P1.) Am I saying go out and buy one? No, but stay tuned, because when the time is right, I think Wi-Fi cameras will be quite desirable.

Nikon Coolpix P5000 Digital Camera

It becomes very difficult in the modern times to allot some time for your loved ones. At such times, giving time for long lost friends becomes close to impossible. And then when you meet them in a family get together or a party, you spend some memorable moments with them. At such times, you feel, if only you could freeze these moments for eternity. It is at such a point and time that a digital camera is of immense help. It helps you store these special moments. Operating these latest digital cameras is never a problem. They are technically advanced and yet have an ergonomic design. However, it is very essential to purchase a camera that suits your needs. This is because some cameras are designed keeping in mind the needs of beginners. Some other cameras are meant for advanced amateur photographers. This Nikon Coolpix P5000 is built keeping in mind all basic needs from a camera.

Key features
Nikon Coolpix P5000 has a 10 megapixel resolution. It is enabled with a CCD sensor. A CCD sensor transfers incoming light into electrical signals with the assistance of photosensitive cells. Apart from this, 4x digital zoom and 3x optical zoom lens. All these features sum up to give excellent results. It is also enabled with shooting modes like Portrait, Night Portrait, Landscape and Sports. These preset scenes make sure you get superlative images even in an unfavorable situation. To add to this, there also exists a macro mode. Sharing and transferring images is done with the help of soft wares like Direct Print and PictBridge. These soft wares facilitate direct communication between the camera and any printer device without the computer acting as a liaison. You could also transfer and edit images on your computer with the help of a USB device.

User friendly aspects
Nikon Coolpix P5000 is a sleek digital camera that can easily fit into your jacket’s pocket. It has advanced features like face-priority autofocus, optical image stabilization, and full-resolution sensitivity settings. Although, you may find the camera to be quite heavy, it adds to the sturdiness of the digicam. The image quality received is very good. However, it is suitable only for domestic photography.

Conclusion
Nikon Coolpix P5000 is a good camera for advanced amateur photographers. It comes with a reasonable price. You may find it a bit expensive. But a 10 megapixel can not afford a price lower than this.

Review of the Nikon N50

The N50 is professional style digital made by Nikon. The camera is in the digital 35mm range, and is one of the most used cameras today. It has an auto focus with a manual option, and has center matrix metering. The N50 has a total of 35 lens options, allowing user to customize shots and adapt zoom possibility.

Ease of use
The Nikon N50 was designed specifically to be easy to use. You can manually change settings to get the exact photo you want, or you can hand it to a kid, allowing it to focus and set itself. The N50 makes taking digitals easy.

Durability
The N50 has been selling for almost ten years with minimal changes. This fact tells all, Nikon made a long lasting winner when they designed the N50. The camera is rugged and continues to perform over time.

Picture Quality
The camera continues to take great shots! If you take a look in some digital camera forums, you will quickly see that many have ten year old N50s. They continue to praise the quality of photos that they have been able to take. Shots are properly focused every time using the auto focus, the feature is finely tuned and performs exceptionally.

Shutter Speed
The N50 is a basic camera. There are cameras out there with a much higher shutter speed, and so if you need a really fast shutter, this might not be the camera for you. Nikon has an upgraded model that will take care of you there, the Nikon D200. The speed of this shutter is plenty for most.

Overall
Since the N50 won’t be on the market for too much longer, the internet has been flooded with people selling new and used N50 models. I recommend it to all beginning photo amateurs. Although the N50 is functional and takes great shots, I wouldn’t recommend it to camera professionals. The lack of features and slow shutter speed impose limitations I can’t deal with.
If you’re a beginner, it’s all you’ll need.

Canon VS Nikon – Canon XSi Or Nikon D3000

Canon’s Rebel XSi (450D) is already on the market and awaiting the arrival of its new Nikon nemesis. Which one will dominate?

The Nikon/Canon debate will not abate with the coming of the new D3000. Nikon proponents will line up on the Nikon side while Canon enthusiasts will take their stance on the other side of the line. It’s kind of like the Republicans vs Democrats or the Auburn War Eagles vs the Alabama Crimson Tide. You pick your favorite rivalry. Your side will be better no matter what.

My money is on both to be winners. If you buy a Canon Rebel XSi or a Nikon D3000 you will be getting an awesome piece of photographic equipment. The technology keeps improving and the price continues to either stay the same or come down a bit with each new entry level DSLR.

Why choose to compare the new Nikon to the Rebel XSi instead of the newer T1i? Very simple – it’s because the Nikon does not have video (and neither does the XSi) but the Rebel T1i does have video. Additionally, the new Nikon is priced below the T1i, more in the price range of the Rebel XSi.

A quick note about the features of the Nikon D3000. The sensor has been increased to a respectable 10 megapixels compared to the 6 megapixel D40, a real plus for new camera buyers. According to the early reviews, the features that made the D40 and D60 so popular have been retained or improved.

If you are ready to make a camera purchase in the entry level DSLR category, you cannot go wrong with either the Canon XSi or Nikon D3000. The Canon VS Nikon debate will not end with this new release, but whether you are on the Canon side or the Nikon side, you will be a winner.

There are actual numbers to compare the two cameras at http://www.digital-photographic-resources.com.

I love photography and all things related to it. Cameras, camera gear, and image editing software fascinate me, so I am either buying the newest piece of equipment (or software) or researching my next purchase.

Nikon D60 Digital Slr

Remember the day your son walked up to get his diploma and waved “Hi Dad?” Good, because your old camera missed the shot. Recall how your wife looked when you surprised her on her birthday — too bad. Oh, and your baby’s precious blue eyes, are, for perpetuity, red. You get the idea. A digital camera that is too difficult to use; one that requires you to find the user’s manual before your one-year-old blows out the candles, is not much use.

A hard to use camera can capture the wrong image, bad color, blurry focus, and you will never again be able to capture that memory, that one moment in time you wanted to preserve. Do your homework and make an informed decision about the digital camera you purchase. Look for one that can reproduce the sharp, vivid images you see with your own eyes. Choose a camera that is easy to operate, small for ease of portability, Nikon’s smallest digital SLR ever is ergonomically designed, has intuitive controls, and is dependable.

Ease of use is the one most important feature to the digital camera buyer. By choosing the Nikon D60 SLR digital camera, with 10.2 effective megapixels and a wealth of innovative and user-friendly features, for both photo enthusiasts and anyone new to digital SLR photography you will undoubtedly capture incredible images never before possible.

The Nikon D60 SLR is an easy to use digital camera that you will be excited to use. First, notice the quick start-up time, shutter response, and auto focus. This fast start-up time means that you won’t miss that ‘point and shoot’ capability you are looking for. You will get the shot that other digital cameras may miss. The D60 takes up to 500 pictures per battery charge so it is ready when you are. No more lost pictures, the Nikon D60 digital camera has 3 pictures per second capability. No more out of focus pictures, with autofocus and with Nikon’s new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens, the D60 camera and lens outfit delivers precise images and stunningly realistic color.

As well, the Nikon D60 SLR features include LCD color monitor, in camera edition functions, a range of data storage options using Eye-Fi memory cards for ease in wireless transfer to your computer, and images are easily stored on SD cards, SDHC and Eye-Fi memory cards.

Ritz Camera.com has a huge selection digital cameras for every buyer, including the Nikon D60, a great camera for the experienced photographer or the novice.
